Sanara Circle is a ‘by and for’ led organisation supporting women of colour (WOC) to better navigate their stress and trauma. We run a psycho-educational programme, in Arabic and in English, learning about stress and trauma as well as tools to manage stress. This moves into a peer support and resilience-building group in both languages. Sanara Circle have partnered with Brighton Women’s Centre to deliver this.

Who are Sanara Circle groups for?

  • any woman, age 18 years+ who identifies as a woman of colour/BME/Black racially minoritised (this includes mixed heritage)
  • has some supporting strategies for managing their emotional distress
  • is able to participate and share in a group setting
  • is interested in learning and exploring as a group
  • is comfortable hearing different opinions and potentially witnessing some distress
  • is able to commit to a regular attendance
  • speaks either English or Arabic

Who are they not for? Those who:

  • have acute mental health support needs
  • require 1:1 support to engage in groups
  • have current, high 1:1 support needs whether regarding domestic abuse, housing, mental & physical ill-health, substance/alcohol misuse, family or current/historical offending
  • are uncomfortable within a group setting
  • are currently struggling with their emotional and psychological regulation and are easily triggered
